Helping Hand Mission Against Poverty

Dear Friends

Dear friends,

Jesus said we should treat others how we would want them to treat us. Where his teachings have been heeded they have changed the world for the better.

In fact, his teachings have impact our world today more than most people realize. His words have led us to create orphanages and homes for the helpless, to abolish slavery, to build hospitals and take medical assistance to under developed countries of the world. But the challenge is still with us.

Today more than a billion people live on the equivalent of a pound a day. The richest 20% of the worlds people use 86% of its resources, while the poorest 20% use 1.4%.
Eight hundred million people are malnourished or facing starvation. A quarter of a million children die every day from malnutrition and preventable disease. Water borne disease continue to threaten the lives of the poor in many countries.

The figures are indeed daunting. Some will dismiss this information, because they feel that their small gifts cannot make any appreciable difference. But we take courage from the old chines proverb.

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step."

If everyone would consistently do their part, however small, we would be well on the way to eradicate poverty. Daunting though the task is; we dare not through up our hands in despair, thinking the situation is hopeless. Helping Hands Mission Against Poverty has reached its 10th Anniversary, and we are committed to helping the poor, the homeless, the naked, and the disenfranchised.

You will notice that we have made a change to our name. Seeing that our focus is not only on Africa, we have changed from Helping Hand Africa Mission to Helping Hands Mission Against Poverty. This allows us to respond to the cry for help from where ever it comes.
